Repetto Savoir-Faire

The Art of the Pointe

Since 1947, Maison Repetto has supported dancers in their quest for elevation. A true symbol of lightness and grace, the pointe shoe embodies the perfect harmony between technical precision and aesthetic beauty. Entirely handcrafted in our workshops in Dordogne, each pair reflects a unique savoir-faire inherited from the world of dance and elevated by our signature stitch-and-turn technique.

Cutting & Material Preparation: The Foundational Gesture

Everything begins with the cutting of the sole, shaped from large sheets of leather using die cutters.

Each sole is then stamped with the size, model reference, and the distinctive Maison Repetto logo.

At the same time, the upper — a satin shell lined with cotton — is carefully edged and assembled inside out, then placed on a last to ensure perfect fabric tension.

A wedge is finally inserted to precisely adjust the vamp’s curve and opening height.

Sculpting by Hand: The Precision Behind Every Pleat

The satin’s characteristic pleats are shaped entirely by hand. This meticulous work demands patience and precision to ensure the shoe’s harmonious appearance.

Once the pleats are perfectly formed, the sole is stitched inside out using the Maison’s signature stitch-and-turn technique.

The shoe is then turned right side out, revealing a soft, satin-finished shape, similar to that of a demi-pointe.

Crafting the Box: The Core of Support

The box — the rigid part that allows the dancer to rise en pointe — is crafted from a blend of papers and natural glues.

As it dries, the material becomes firm while remaining flexible enough to adapt to the foot.

It is inserted between the inner lining and the satin outer layer, offering optimal support without compromising comfort or the finesse of the silhouette.

The Final Gesture: Finishing & Stabilising the Shape

The shank, a rigid piece inserted into the sole, is secured with glue and staples.

As a key support element, it follows the curve of the foot and reinforces stability en pointe.

Once the structure is complete, the shoe is placed back on the last and heated at a high temperature to set its final silhouette.
